Kinga's art combines a unique perspective for florals and landscapes with an eerie sense for colour to produce her stylised portrayals.

Kinga Bertényi was born in Budapest. She moved to Montreal and in the early 1960's studied fine art at Sir George William University and Commercial Art at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, as well as private art lessons from Prof. E. Byrd. She lived in Holland for a period in the 1970s, where she studied life drawing and exhibited in Leyden. Upon her return to Canada, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University in Ottawa. since then, Kinga's art has varied from works on silk to oil. She now uses acrylics and continues to create florals, landscapes, and abstracts. Her other contributions to the artistic community include teaching acrylics and artistic juror for city Hall.

"My work is almost manic in nature; I enjoy a prolonged period of waiting, nurturing an idea until suddenly I hit the canvas and spontaneously bring the work to being. The process itself is emotionally driven, not meticulously thought out or deliberately executed. An absence of rigidly prescribed models from which the paintings are created allows for window onto my very personal view. Since early childhood, colours played a major part in my life. And now, I am using colours that are not necessarily imitating life, but instead express my feelings and moods."
